Bronze Street

Bronze Street, March, CambridgeshireLocation: March, Cambridgeshire

Sector: Residential

Continuing an established and successful partnering arrangement, Masefields in conjunction with Muir Group Housing Association and Camvil Developments created a new development of 53 dwellings, comprising 26 affordable homes and 27 homes for private sale.

Completed in 2006, all homes were built with enhanced levels of thermal insulation, with high efficiency boilers and central heating systems, and as part of a long term evaluation process, solar hot water heating or ground source heating was incorporated into a number of homes.

Although not considered cost effective on a small scale, the continual performance monitoring of these innovative technologies will be used by the development partners to assess their inclusion in future environmentally sound schemes.

Situated centrally within a small market town, on the edge of a conservation area, the site was made more demanding by its proximity to the town’s ring road that was the main arterial route around the town.

Designed to achieve 100% site density, Masefields completed the detail design in conjunction with the main contractor, in order that the complexities of site deliveries, lack of compound storage and ‘buildability’ on a tight site could be incorporated into the design.

The Loop

The Loop - New Thatched CottageLocation: Cambridgeshire

Masefields were appointed to design a high quality individual home set within extensive grounds surrounded by greenbelt.

The house finished with a white render and hardwood windows beneath a traditional thatched roof incorporated a large farmhouse style family kitchen, separate dining room for entertaining, a small playroom and a large living room with both front and rear outlook, whilst at first floor was to provide four bedrooms, with a dressing area and en-suite to the master bedroom.

Benham Court

Benham Court in NorthamptonLocation: Northampton

Sector: Refurbishment

A 1970s three-storey building comprising 28 bed-sit apartments was tired and unletable. Our clients in conjunction with the local authority and community healthcare services, appointed Masefields to produce a series of concept schemes to create a range of more desirable and spacious apartments within strict tight financial parameters.

A design was chosen and premises were remodelled in 2007 and fully occupied on completion.

The end user group identified for the property had specific mental health needs, and the remodelled designs took into account the specialist requirements, with enhanced sound insulation incorporated within the internal partitions, and existing floors and ceiling upgraded, without compromise on initial design or budget.
