Self Build Housing
Self build projects were traditionally undertaken only by the brave, but with a greater understanding of ‘self build’ and the increasing availability of self build mortgages, the number of self build schemes is increasing.
There are clear benefits of self building. You can achieve an individual designed house, built to your personal specification and requirements, and if carefully planned and built, the project can yield a substantial saving compared with a developer built house. However, there are also some very big challenges, not only finding land and funding, but negotiating through the planning process, obtaining building regulations and warranty certification, as well as the Party Wall Act and the CDM 2015 Regulations – challenges which can be reduced to manageable levels if an experienced and professional team is appointed and retained throughout the project.
